Bethany House of Northern Virginia Welcomes a New Executive Director
Former Program Director of the organization’s Family Assistance Program assumes the helm.
ALEXANDRIA, Virginia – Bethany House of Northern Virginia (BHNV), is a private, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides emergency shelter and supportive services to victims of domestic violence throughout Northern Virginia and the surrounding DC metro communities. The organization is pleased to announce the appointment of Gayan Peart as its Executive Director. Peart will assume the role of Executive Director effective March 2, 2015.
Peart is well acquainted with Bethany House of Northern Virginia. Prior to assuming the role of Executive Director of the organization, Peart served as Program Manager for the Family Assistance Program, the cornerstone program of BHNV.
Peart’s experience in social services is extensive and multifaceted. Serving those in need in Washington, DC, she worked as a Homeless Services Specialist at the Virginia Williams Family Resource Center, a subsidiary of the Coalition for the Homeless. She has also served as a social worker specializing in children, youth, and family services in Massachusetts, and was a social work intern for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in Chicago where she worked in the sex crimes division. Peart has served as a relief advocate at a domestic violence shelter in New England, as well.
Peart was formally educated at Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri where she earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree and at Loyola University Chicago School for Social Work where she earned a Master of Social Work degree.
